Pentagon Memorial Project

Pentagon Memorial Project
The Office of the Secretary of Defense and various other organizations, including the family members of victims, have joined together to create a memorial commemorating the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack on the Pentagon, and the 184 people who lost their lives both in the Pentagon and on the American Airlines Flight 77. Advanced Pattern Works has entered into an agreement with Carondolet Foundry Corporation, who is responsible for casting the 184 memorial units that comprise the Memorial.

Each unit will be constructed of a super duplex stainless steel alloy, designed to last more than 100 years, maintain its structural integrity, and be compatible with other materials and the reflecting pool that will surround each bench unit.

The construction schedule calls for completion of the first prototype in early 2005, with completion dedication of the Memorial Park in the fall of 2006.
